Nothing too exciting this weekend...I helped mom paint her master bedroom (Temperate Taupe) and basically spent the whole weekend cleaning house. I did get over to the Theatre to see Salt, which was alright for an action movie, but I sense a franchise coming!

Geology wise...nothing new to report...its too hot to go hiking! I'm going to make Jared take me on my next Idaho trip :) I'll find something fun to see...we went to Craters of the Moon last year, which I found to be really beautiful and unique. Idaho Falls has a couple of good museums, or so they look as I haven't been to any yet. I'm most interested to go to the Museum of Natural History, because I enjoy looking at cool rocks and fossils :)

In case you're in Bakersfield, CA: There is a pretty interesting natural history museum here, the Buena Vista Museum of Natural History, which has some interesting fossils and local exhibits. When Jared and I went, we had a very nice docent who walked us through the whole museum! I forgot his name, but he was really awesome and knowledgeable :)

Its a slow Thursday...

Well today is technically my Friday :) which means I will spend a majority of the day counting down the hours until I am free!! I am finally caught up on all of my high-priority work stuff which means I get to spend today working on my more entertaining projects. Entertaining for me, probably not for you :) I have to build a few cross sections and investigate some possible recompletions...should prove to be an interesting day.

No big plans for the weekend, although I wish I had the extra vacation time to go to Idaho! I miss Jared...and the cooler weather...and the clean air...and the nice views. I'm pretty sure Idaho is one of the greatest places on earth! I mean come on...look at the view from Jared's yard!

It's like a geologist paradise :) If anyone knows of any type of geology related work in Idaho, I would be most appreciative! It's been two years now and still no go. But I'll just keep on trying!

Anywho, thats my morning break for now...time to get back to work!

I guess I must have really let this thing go!

So its been about two years since my last post. Thats a long time! I'm no longer a measly geology student, but a full fledged Development Geologist with a small independent petroleum company! And I finally, finally finished my Masters Thesis (if you really want to, you can read it and let me know what you think!) Life is pretty much the same as it ever was, but I just get paid more (a lot more!) now :) I'll try to make an effort to keep this thing updated more often.

I've been having a good day today as I recently had my Petrel license upgraded. All of the features I wanted since the last few releases are now in there! I spent all afternoon making new and improved cross sections :) Thank goodness now I only have to use one well template instead of many! It makes my life so much easier when I can just hit 'apply all' and magic happens! Now I just have to venture into my 3D modeling visualizations to see what has changed over there. I am also excited about the database functionality...but thats probably enough about that!

I'll be drilling wells soon (yay!) and so I'll be quite the busy bee for the next month or so...hopefully I can get Jared to come out here to visit (or me there). If anyone is looking for cheap flights to various destinations, you should check out Allegiant Air, they had fares as low as 40 bucks each way!

Anywho, thats all I have for this afternoon and my break is now over :) Back to work!

BAH! Once you get out of the habit! Anywho...I guess things have been going pretty well...I'm set to graduate soon (YAY!) and then I will be ready to move up @ my job!! I guess that would be my biggest excuse for not maintaining this stupid thing...that whole, growing up, getting a job, livin life, being with the people you love, etc. I just dont seem to have the time anymore! That and I got a PS3...i am thinking about getting a Wii as well..but that will come later...I'm just glad that I'm finally at a point in my life when I can afford to buy a PS3 and not have to worry about going hungry for a month. Woot! So maybe I'll try to get this thing updated once in a while...Once my thesis is over and done with (writing now! hopefully wont be long!) and get settled in life, etc...maybe then I'll have more time. Although I really like being busy and such...Well..I guess not much has happened since my last update! I'm officially done with classes, so no more school...just the writing...Jared and I will be moving in together soon...May or may not be promoted at the job, we'll see how that goes...I'd really like to relocate to another city..probably Denver! Imagine me, living in snow! HA! It would be fun...Maybe in a year or two I can take the test to become a registered Californian Geologist..that would be cool..although I think I need experience first. Thats pretty much it..I'm kinda glad the computer isnt suckin as much of my time as it used to....I get alot more reading in anywho....Well...until next time...in six months (?)

Hola!

I just presented my poster today at the AGU (American Geophysical Union) 2007 Fall meeting here in San Francisco. Sara Jane and her fam her nice enough to give me a place to stay for the week (and threw in a few meals to boot, best meatballs EVER!) And we got some good wedding stuff in (being fitted for my bridesmaid dress, seeing Wente where the ceremony/reception will take place...etc..) which made me super excited for when Sara and Mike get married and (of course, I'm female!) makes me think about what I would want when/if I decide to get married. Its fun stuff to think about : o) But the conference was very interesting, I got to go to some good talks. Luckily the BART station is nearby and I can take it here from Sara Jane's house (east bay) to Powell street which is two blocks away from where I need to be. I've decided that I totally love taking the train and wouldn't mind living in the city/commuting etc. Sara Jane wants to convince me to move up here (seriously considering it, USGS is in Menlo Park...) and Jared seems like he wouldnt mind so long as we lived in some rural place that didn't have too many people, which I could deal with. I absolutely love how cold it is up here (compared to Bako, at least, Utah is colder, but I don't know if I can handle the snow...) at least cold enough so that I dont look crazy wearing my hats, scarves and my new crazy Bob Cratchit gloves : o) It'll be nice to finally move away from Bako (time to finish that thesis!) All in all my poster was well received. Dr. Loewy was there and got a couple snapshots of my talking about my awesome poster. I definitely got some good input at the very least. Dr. Nicholson said that most posters get about three people interested enough to stop by and I probably pulled a crowd of about 20. Sweet! And I got to meet this really cool old guy who apparently was one of the founding fathers of plate tectonics, although I can't remember his name, but he was very cool! I also got to hang out at this cool irish pub called the Chieftan, which had the best burger ever. I may go back tomorrow...unless I find something better...I heard there was this really good thai place in union square...So much city left to explore and so little time. I don't know how my sister ever left!! It seems like such an exciting place to live. Anywho, I just bought the new Dane Cook CD (Gotta love Dane!) and so now I must give it a listen.

Procrastination

BAH! I hate how desparate I am to distract myself from work...It seems the closer I get to the end of my thesis, the longer it takes me. I guess after working a full day of making maps, constructing cross sections, data base maintence and data QC I'm just too tired to come home and do more making maps, constructing figures, QC-ing my data. I think the dog is sick of it too...she's looking at me with the...you should be playing with me right now look....hehe..Well AGU is almost here! I will be staying with Sara Jane up in Danville and commuting via BART. I've never ridden it before, so it will be exciting. Sara Jane and Mike are going to babysit me for my first Monday morning ride : o) AGU should be exciting as well, there's supposed to be alot of people there, but my poster got stuck in some session about the tectonics of the dead sea and not California tectonics where i wanted it (and it should have been) but it was kinda beyond my control. It'll be a good chance to present my work and look around the see what else is out there..maybe there is a PhD in my future yet...As long as its a fellowship....

I have been enjoying my job and getting to know everyone there. Its been a pretty fun place to work and I'm learning alot of fancy software, which is cool. I'll be officially staying at my new place tomorrow night I think since I still have to use this stupid PC to work on my thesis. I'm excited to be moving out onto my own! Well...there is the dog too...I met some of my neighbors and they seem pretty cool. Hopefully it will be a good place to live. I need a fridge though, Jared lent me this tiny one that he had been using as a beer/wine cooler. Yet more money I get to spend and not save...I can't wait for the day I'm out of debt, oh wait, that'll never happen in this country! Well..I'll make it as minimal as possible. At least I can afford to live on my own now.

Jared will be graduating soon and I'm so excited for him! Now he can find a job of his own and we can move in together...it's exciting to think about. At least I know he'll be able to come stay a while round christmas time, maybe even in time to help with the tamales!

Again, long time no post! I may or may not be posting again sometime, because I finally got a brand new, shiny, JOB. Yay. Its my first real job, so I'll be devoting most of my time to it. Not much else going on...spent the whole summer with my man in Utah (we've been together a whole year! yay!) and soon he'll be done with school! And I'm working on finishing my thesis (writing!) and then I'll be *almost* done. One more class in winter quarter. Oh, and I got a dog! and...thats pretty much it. I think I'm becoming an old, boring person. Sad for me...hehe maybe!

Actually I think I just started living life!!

Not much going on...concentrating on my thesis this quarter/summer/fall quarter. Graduating hopefully by March 2008!! Went to Mark and Sarah and Chris and Liz's wedding: beautiful! Missing my baby as always, but I'll get to see him more in summer~ And the garden too..

Went to AAPG Long Beach...that was cool...Starting to pick up Nascar...thats cool...And now I'm going to bed...I dunno if I should keep this thing alive except for the fact that I love the title...heheh

Gone Daddy Gone

So i guess today I did a little reflection about the past year of my life. Ok maybe just right now. And a glass of cheap red wine makes it easy for me to delve into those personal issues...

I guess the biggest improvement of my life I made in the few months after a painful (but necessary) breakup. Without that, I don't think I could have become the person I am right now. I'm happy in my own right, which is finally great, esp since I had a bunch of old baggage hanging around. And I became healthier, which was also good. I've been maintain a net weightloss of about four pounds, so yay me! Except for field camp, where I drank way too much beer, although that was balanced out by the whole hiking every day thing. And I met the love of my life. Which is always good : o) It took a while, but finally being happy with myself, getting rid of some of my needy tendancies and making myself proud of myself, well it worked miracles. I'm happy with where I am now. With any luck I'll be done with my (awesome) thesis by August, moved in with the hottest man alive by Dec, and working a real job by the beginning of next year. It makes me feel so excited to know I wont be so poor by this time next year. Hopefully, I'll start out at 80k a year, but most likely it'll be 70k, unless I work off in the middle east or Nigeria or someplace dangerous. Then I could be making 170k like Miguel. But I'd also run the risk of rape and decapitation...hmm...At least I'll be able to buy Sara Jane a real wedding present (Aug 08, woot!). I'm so happy for her, I only wish that I get as lucky as she did to meet someone who I can be equally as happy with. I'm going to hold in my optimism that Jared is the one (alas I get ahead of myself) but I really hope so. I'd have his babies at least (I've told him that!) hehe...I'm a dreamer, what can I say...I'm pretty sure I'd be happy to spend the rest of my life with him...like 99.9...but don't tell him I said so ; o)...And I digress....Anywho over all, Good Year, Better Sarah... Woot!!

Also: For your info, I am trying to arrange a fossil dig at Shark Tooth Hill here in Bako as a fundraiser for the Geology Club. If you're interested, please let me know, k?! Also planning a screening of An Inconvenient Truth on Campus, so look out for that too!

So it's been a bit busy and I havent had time to post like usual. Jared was here for Christmas and the fam really liked him, which makes me very happy! I don't think I've ever seen my mom make so many homemade meals before...hopefully he visits again sometime soon so I can eat real meals instead of the snacking that I usually do during the day.

The quarter started off well too, I'm teaching two new classes (well new to me!) and both of them are alot easier than what I used to teach. The Plate Tectonics class I'll be taking seems very interesting, especially since I've already picked a paper topic: the evolution of the western transverse ranges! At least I have plenty of articles on it. The petroleum class I'll be taking also looks interesting. I've started reading this book called Blood for Oil, which is about the origin, politics and future of the oil industry. I'm taking it with a grain of salt because so far, its a little biased, although it seems well researched. I'm always wary of books that aren't fiction being written by people who arent scientists. I also bought this book called Beyond Oil which is about alternative energy and The Earth in the Balance (?) by Al Gore. In addition I have textbooks and I bought the book YOU! The Owners Manual and YOU! On a Diet...sheesh..at least I wont be lacking for entertainment.

Before I go on, this requires some explanation:

My sister and I decide to go to the All Saints Catholic Store on H Street to find a present for my Aunt Anna. We spend a while looking around and Corinne feels like we should buy something because we been there so long. Then I see the wall rosaries. And Corinne asks, "Do you really want to get that for her?" and I say, "Yes, yes I do." hehe needless to say it was another memorable moment in family history, esp when my uncle decided to put it on. I don't think they're going to actually hang it up, but hey, its the thought that counts right?

This was a fun field trip, esp when we got stuck in the sand. Digging out Suburbans is fun! The formation here in the Beck Springs shown from a distance, which I have pictures of some pretty stromatolites, but I'm too lazy to upload them.

Ok time to go running on the bike path, I've procrastinated enough....Sigh...I'm in the middle of switching gyms, so I've had to workout outside...fun fun fun...

I miss Jared alot too, I really loved him being here, or rather just being closer together. I'm excited for the time when we can move in together and then I wont have to be missing him all the time *tear*...At least I know I'll be able to live with him without annoyance..AND he can make coffee too!

This quarter has been so long and unmotivated. I'm glad its almost over! I wish I'd get more on top of posting and such, but I just havent had the time or really felt like it. I've been busy this last week writing a ten page paper on the sediments of the Grand Staircase. Amazingly enough, this was the most interesting part of my quarter. I find it so amazing that the whole Grand Canyon/Escalante/Zion/Bryce area covers so much of earth history and looks terribly good doing it too. Makes me excited for my next visit to see Jared, so I can make him take me out there for some hikes :o) I'm trying still to lose the weight I've gained from summer and I've gotten back down to a reasonable number, so I'm pretty happy with that. Since I'll have almost the whole month of December to work on it and my thesis...hopefully I make good progress on both.

So I've also been considering what Christmas present I will buy myself...heh I'm thinking of the Wii...but its almost time for a new computer, which I am contemplating either a new 24in iMac or another laptop..although I dont know if I need to go Pro...I may get myself a macbook..cheaper, but the screen is so small!! I dunno..I'm still thinking about it. But with the Wii priced what it is..I may get both...hmm..new computer...new Zelda...so many possibilities..

Other than that..nothing major going on...life trudges ever onward. I miss Jared alot, but I'll see him soon : o) soon as I get some new tires! I can't wait for Christmas...its always my favorite time of year...And Black Friday too!! Mall opens at 1am!!! I'm anticipating!

*sigh* Now to start that Groundwataer Modeling project..yay for Modflow!!

HEROES!!

So I'm really psyched about this new show Heroes...and so is just about everyone else i know. Its a good show, sort of a comic book-super hero-suspense-thing. I dig it. So today I was talking with the sister and she told me I should blog about my Heroes Theroies, so here goes:

#1 The Senator's Brother I forget his name, is it Peter?, not important really, you all should know who I'm talking about, right? So this dude comes along and his brother and him can fly right!? WRONG! (that was for you corinne.) I think/theorize his ability is to mimick other abilities. Hence why last episode he was able to see the future. Because he was near the dude. Now, he drew the future once before, but he wasnt near the dude, but he had seen him like what, the day before? So I'm convinced he has some sor tof ability channeling thing..maybe like whatshername from X-Men (Rouge?) I dunno...I dont do much comicbooking

#2 Sylar (sp!?) also has similar abilities...Or rather I think he can absorb powers, but only by stealing them by eating the peeps brain or something. Sounds funky, I know, but then why else would he be chasing down the cheerleader trying to kill her, since he can to crazy poltergiest things, if he has the ability to heal, wouldnt that make him almost unstoppable->hence save the cheerleader/save the world.

#3 Senators Brother and Sylar are gonna throw down, since he can mimick Sylars ability, he would be the only one capable of defeating him, since he would basically nullify his ability by being able to use the same ability himself.

One thing I dont get is why Sylar let the guy with the hearing voices abiltiy go. I mean..if he really could take his ability, wouldnt he have? And why oh why does Mica's Father work willingly for Sylar...(BTW #4 I'm assuming Sylar to be the Cheerleaders father, which seems very likely to me)

And Finally #5 Mica will be some sort of boy genius. He's got two special parents, hence the chance of him being special is pretty good.

Thats all I can think of for now...Maybe if I contemplate it some more it'll make more sense. Alas, this is what I do when I'm waiting for seismic data to dowmload.

Busy Busy Busy~

Thats me! I've been buzzing around, trying to get back into some kind of routine. Its been so difficult. I thought having all night classes would make it easy, but I find I like working out at night vs during the day. I dunno why, maybe I'm weird? Arg! I just wish things would start feeling routine again. At least I have next week to look forward to! Jared is coming to visit me!! I'm so excited...

AND, apparently I'm getting a tatoo this weekend. My sister says I have to...hehe its a bonding thing I guess? I was trying to think of something geological, but its hard to come up with something I want to keep forever, since it is permanent. Any ideas?

Also...some mischief is a-brewin for this weekend. Pictures to follow.

So I've found a couple new shows: Heroes, Jericho and Ugly Betty. I really like all three although I'm going to have to work out some mischief with my tivo. I highly recommend these at the vert least. I think Heroes is very X-Men-ish, with this whole comic book theme and the Japanese guy freaking cracks me up!! Jericho I think is a good concept, but it feels like to me that this is going to be one of those 'Billant but Cancelled' shows on Bravo. I think its cool though. And Ugly Betty just cracks me up, I love that America chick...she's cute!

Anywho, time for me to get clean...hopefully I'll get some regular posts going!

Chillin at the SCEC meeting...

So I'm here in lovely Palm Springs, which I've never been to before, presenting a poster on my Thesis work thus far and hanging out with a bunch of cool geologist types. Its pretty rockin, although I'll only be here for two days (today and tomorrow) which means I'll be missing alot of the talks :o( so sad AND the free food! They pay for breakfast, lunch and dinner. At least the hotel is pretty cool, it's at the Hilton. There's supposed to be a cocktail hour sometime soon. YaY for free booze!!

I spent the majority of my time here at a series of short talks about Velocity Models in CA. I'm hoping that I can add my velocity model (eventually I'll have to make one or aid in making one to covert my data from what is called Two-Way-Travel-Time (the time it takes for a sound wave to travel, hit something, bounce back and be picked up by the reciever) to Depth, which will be exciting because then I can contribute to the Community fault model stuff! Then I'll be in with the cool kids.

Right now, I've been working on cleaning up some of my fault surfaces and figuring out how to get some kinks out of my interpretation. Apparently I'm being too true to the fault as shown in the data and not adjusting for errors and such. Fun stuff. To think, I'll be done with this hopefully by the end of Spring quarter! Who woulda thought I could achieve so much. Thanks Mom.

My prof has also been giving me options other than working for the big bad oil industry. I dunno though, since they found two new fields (one in Kern County no less!) maybe I should stick with it? Or maybe I should get that PhD....or Both!

So not much else. I wont get to see Jared again for a couple weekends (I'll be going to Santa Cruz Island 15th-18th (rock!) and AZ to see Sara Jane (double ROCK!) ) this makes me sad. Hopefully he'll be able to come visit so he can meet my family and my mom can ask him a million way too personal questions and my sister can debate him about the mormon church (he's an ex!!). It'll be good times...I really can't wait. So much to look forward to and then there's that whole school-work-thesis thing. hehehe..I really wish I had some time to myself :o)

I think thats about rambling, maybe I should head to my room or something...I'll figure it out.

Ok, so I've found out my blog is listed on this website. Apparently its a game where you trade blogs like you would stocks. Interesting concept, but I wonder why someone would even bother to buy shares in my blog since I dont think its all that snazzy for one and for two, not many people read it, or so I think, but hey, I guess its just one of those weird internet things right? Like maybe this thing will be the next myspace or something? But I doubt any value will come out of owning my blog...who knows! Apparently I'm in the top ten geology blogs..which either means there's only 10 geology blogs out there...or that no one really reads what I write anywho...ah well..

So I'm still in Utah hanging out with my man. I've annoyed my sister by being here, but I think my mom was rather pleased, at least when her DATE came to VISIT her! Ok, so it wasn't a date, but I'm seriously considering putting the moms on one of those dating websites, just to see what would happen...it is the wave of the future you know!

So I'm back..alive and getting things in order for the trek to Utah on Friday! I'm so excited to go see Jared and I know he'll be excited to see me too! Just submitted my abstract for the SCEC conference:

Imaging and Mapping Active 3D Fault Geometry in the California Continental Borderland

The Continental Borderland offshore southern California has had a complex tectonic history. This area experienced late Cenozoic subduction and Miocene oblique extension, as well as components of large-scale tectonic rotation that continue to the present. The northern part of the Continental Borderland was the locus of Pacific-North American plate motion for more than 70% of its displacement history, and recent GPS data suggest that as much as 20% of current plate motion is still located offshore. Much of this plate motion in the Continental Borderland appears to occur on NW-striking right-transpressive faults and folds that terminate against the predominantly E-W-striking left-transpressive structures of the rotating Western Transverse Ranges province. How this crustal deformation is accommodated in 3D, and the interaction between rotated and non-rotated domains is little understood. These active offshore structures also represent a largely as yet unknown seismic and tsunami hazard to many California coastal communities, and provide important analogs to active buried (less-accessible) onshore California structures that are likely to produce large, damaging earthquakes in the adjacent Los Angeles basin.

As part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach, extensive grids of existing high-quality industry multichannel seismic (MCS) and high-resolution multibeam data are being used to image and map active 3D fault surfaces, stratigraphic reference horizons, and seafloor morphology in this offshore area. These digital surfaces help to define the geometry and evolution of active subsurface faults and folds, and to better quantify the finite strain field with time. Initial results suggest a complex pattern of faults and folds that interact to partition oblique strain on systems of intersecting high- and low-angle structures. For example, the near-vertical Malibu Coast fault accommodates predominantly left-slip above a set of stacked north-dipping low-angle thrust faults. At greater depth, these high- and low-angle faults may merge to form oblique-reverse faults that reactivate inherited Miocene normal-separation faults associated with the initial rifting and rotation of the Western Transverse Ranges province, and which now drive the uplift and folding of the Santa Monica Mountains and northern Channel Islands.

This system of interacting faults, folds and crustal block rotations is comparable to similar fault systems around the world, including the North Anatolia fault system in the Marmara Sea, where combinations of low-angle faults beneath long-wavelength folds and adjacent high-angle faults also appear to accommodate distributed continental plate motion and inferred block rotation.

I'm not entirely sure if I can post that, but this is my thesis work so far. I'm really grateful to my advisors for the help they've given me so far..I really feel like I'm working towards something meaningful and I'm learning so much from them! Its great!

So...not much today..getting things done and getting around to see everyone before I head off AGAIN...I need to pick sometime to stay home..I kinda miss being lazy : o)

Allllright...

So I made it home safely from Istanbul! I'm glad to be home although my internal clock is messed up..I'm wide awake and its 2AM. Anywho, I brought back lots of pictures (and tea, YUM!) as well as some other souveniers, I'll post some of the pics on either facebook or flickr, whichever strikes my fancy..

It was overall, a good trip, although the trauma with my luggage made me not want to EVER travel through London Heathrow again in my life unless I'm specifically going to London. I did manage to survive and get in some good sightseeing (lucky I got my sneakers in time) although I am rather unhappy at all the weight I've gained being on vacation (5 pounds-ish) but I've got all fall and winter to work it off again...Ugh...I wish I could have the body confidence other girls do, but its hard..funny thing is that I like myself being the weight I am now with the +5 pounds...I just need to do some more situps! Although I need to get back into running again...nothing makes me feel as good as a run! Well almost nothing :o) I miss my Baby..but I get to go see him sometime in the next few days! I'm so excited...esp since he'll get to meet my family soon and I really think they'll get along well. I made him promise to make sure we get lots of exercise while I'm in Utah with him..there's alot of hikes and stuff to do so I'm pretty excited about that!

So I'm off to watch my tivo-ed shows and try to relax enough to sleep. New guilty pleasure: The tv show Psyche on USA...Flippin Hi-Lar-i-Ous~

Istanbul!!

SO...I'm leaving for Istanbul on sat night!! I'm really excited, a little nervous for many reasons..I have a poster to present, its a long and now terribly safe flight because I have to connect through heathrow, and its an islamic country so there's a bunch of guidleines for the way I should act/dress...even though Istanbul is a huge metropolitan city, all the guides I've read have recommended to dress modestly, not smile at anyone and always wave with my right hand...hehe I'm looking forward to being able to sightsee and shop! They have the second largest mall in the world there AND the oldest! So I definitely have to go to both...if only I wasnt so poor...

So needless to say, I am unsure of my internet access and probably will not post while I am there. So this will be my last post for about a week or so! I hope you all miss me, I know you will! :o)

I just watched Talladega Nights...one word HI-LAR-I-OUS! I loved it, although I'll leave the details out since my favorite geologist hasn't seen it yet...but I did really love the fact they used alot of Steve Earle in the movie..my mom loves Steve, so I've heard him alot..I dug it :o)

YARG!! Its been such a boring two days...I've been working and gyming and doing my usual routine, but it just seems so, blah. I guess I really miss living with the girls from field camp. I guess I need to start calling peeps and keeping in touch :o) I'm usually pretty bad at that (thank God for myspace!) I also miss being busy. Not to say I'm not busy now..but going out everyday and doing fieldwork really felt fulfilling. It really is tempting to just do that as a career, I really think I would love it. Its just nice spending time hiking around outdoors and working and just being done at the end of the day. Although I do love working on my seismic lines..hehe I guess I could do both...but this means I would probably have to work for an oil company, yarg! Alas, such is life.

So not much today. Just getting the poster ready for Istanbul. I'm working on getting some 3D images from Kingdom Suite. Hopefully I'll have some to post on here later since I just found out that my blog is on the list of geology blogs on About.com. So I better get some more geology on here :o) In case some of you were wondering what my research is all about, I'm mapping and imaging faults in 3D using Kingdom Suite by SMT and eventually GoCAD. I've been getting pretty profieicent at Kingdom, which is a good skill for a geophysicist to have! hehe..my study area is south of the Channel Islands, using some recently proprietary seismic data. My goals are to study and map fault interactions between rotated (the rotated Western Transverse Ranges!) and non rotated (the Northern California Continental Borderland!) domains, seismic hazards and 3D imaging things. This basically means I sit in front of a computer all day to analyze some data and make pretty 3D images in the hopes that I can analyze strain fields and asses the seismic hazards. Or so my professor has told me, if I correctly understood :o)

Well not much else...I'm missing being in Utah!! Actually I just miss all the friends I made there...and one person in particular :o) I guess I just got so used to being around so many people that going back to my boring old, uneventful life here in Bako just seems so, well, boring! It really makes me look forward to when I graduate, find my dream job and move somewhere cool..when I'm financially stable and able to travel where I want and hopefully when I want! We'll see :o)

Waaah I miss Utah!!

SO to fill people in on the happenings of my life the past (and hectic) couple weeks, I finsihed field camp and moved back from my five week semi-vacation in Utah...and, as per usual, since my life was basically planned out for the next year or so, I had to go and fall in like with a nice boy from Utah :o) My family pretty much thinks that I'm nuts (i think..) but I have to say that I really havent felt so sure about something like this in a while. My take is, if its meant to be, it'll work out. And I really hope it does, cuz I havent been this happy in a while :o)

Aside from that not much...just prepping for Istanbul and then the SCEC meetin in Sept. Probably another trip to Utah after and a cruise on down to see my Slutface in Arizona...More about this later when I feel like thinking about it..

YEAH!! Today is the second to last day of field camp...I'll be glad to be done, but alas I have a crapload of wrok to do upon my return to Bako...And I'm gonna miss it here alot, especially all the new friends I've made...I think this whole experience here has changed me as a person, made me loosen up a bit at least. Somehow I wasnt expecting it to be this great...I was really prepared to be bored and homesick for five weeks. But I guess lifes just funny like that :o)

I will be glad to see the fam again...I miss Friday. Oh and the moms:o). I think she misses me too. Corinne probably just misses making fun of me..hehe I love you sister!

I think we should BBQ upon my return..I'll have to see about that...

Ok time to get back to paying attention..

So today I did nothing..absolutely nothing..and I loved it!

April and I were the only ones who stayed in town this weekend, so we hung out at the coffee shop, then the pool where we met up with Ashley and then headed over to the reniassance fair thing to grab some lunch, which I had a Gyro for the first time and it was mighty good. And then I had funnel cake..and kettle corn. I'm pretty sure my diet is pretty much screwed up from all this crap I've been eating lately, but hey, I'll be back on track once I get home...this is almost like being on vacation for 5 weeks, away from all people who annoy me, and the only thing I really have to think about is geology, which I love to think about~ So it works for me :o) Too bad it costs so much...

Anywho, not much else aside from that. We watched SLC punk tonight, which I thought was a good movie. I dug the story it was telling anywho..

So I guess its time for a shower and then bed...the power will be turned off tomorrow from 6am-2pm, so apparently they're giving us vouchers for iHop...we'll see how that goes...ruin my diet EVEN more than now..yikes..

At least I've been going running when I can, too bad my knees are starting to hurt~

Ok so today was a good day! We hiked up to Cedar Breaks, which is similar to Bryce Canyon. They had hoodoos and everything! We even got to see this cool waterfall which came out of this really cool cave (Karst!) I'll post pictures when I get a CD made at Wal Mart, because stupid me, I left my camera USB cable at home. I'm such a genius, I know!

Then we watched the Date Movie, which was HORRIBLE, although funny because it was the worst movie I've seen ever. Followed by The Notebook. Only a few movies have made me tear up, and not in the I'm crying my eyes out sense, but this movie made me cry!! Really cry!! It was just so sweet and such a good story and now I'm contemplating reading the book. It made me all sappy and girly...but what can I say, I love that romantic crap :o) Someday I hope I'm lucky enough to find someone to love like that!! We'll see...

So today we went to Purgatory...which turned out to be super easy because it wasnt that hot and the wind wasn't blowing so we couldnt smell the landfill much (or maybe I just got used to the smell? I dunno...) So I had an easy day of it today~ We went swimming in this lake round lunchtime and it was fun until I touched the bottom and felt the grass stuff growing down there...I hate seaweed and this stuff is even worse! hehe..but I had fun anywho...Tonight we're going out for 'real' margaritas, which will hopefull be better than the last bunch, which you can read about in my myspace blog, since I cancelled my older blog earlier today! It'll be up until tomorrow sometime...so make sure you switch all your links over, yeah!

Anywho, not much else to say.. Utah is such a pretty state! I love the country around here. Oh! and we went to see this really cool fireworks show for fourth of july. We got really cool seats and one of our TAs was in the band that was playing and he dedicated Sweet Home Alabama to us! It was sweet...I think we were the only people getting down, since everyone else was still sitting...its fun to cause a rukus! Although the sucky part was gettin back late and only getting five hours of sleep last night! Although tomorrow I dont have to be ready until 7:30AM, which'll give me time to sleep in! I'm so excited!

Oook I think thats it...*sigh* I love being here..no real work, I get to do geology all day long and party at night! This is gonna be the best month of my life~

Just another working week this week. We're mapping metamorphic rocks around Utah Hill, which has been easy so far because it's been cool thanks to all the rain. Hopefully it stays this way until we're done with Purgatory. Purgatory is supposed to be the hardest part of this whole trip, because its hot and next to a landfill, so its super stinky to boot. Fun, huh!? I must be crazy, oh wait I love rocks : o)

Not much else..life is moving along at a nice slow pace..being here is almost like being back in college again in SB...except for this whole dry campus thing...but I'm having fun while I'm here because I know I'll have alot of work to do when I get back...Arg!
